Gas water heater repair and replacement in Cathedral City
On a gas storage heater, no hot water usually traces to the pilot, burner, gas control or a safety device. An assessment finds which one — and whether the tank itself is still sound enough to repair.

Venting and combustion air
A gas heater needs proper venting and combustion air to run safely. Scorching near the top, a soot smell or a vent that has come loose should be described when you get in touch — keep clear of the unit and don't relight it.
Air-quality rules depend on the input rating
In the South Coast AQMD, Rule 1121 sets emission limits for residential gas water heaters rated below 75,000 BTU/hr. Units at 75,000 BTU/hr and above are outside Rule 1121 and may fall under Rule 1146.2 instead. What matters is the BTU/hr rating on the label, not the gallon capacity — so ask the installer which rule applies to the specific replacement model.

If you smell gas
Leave the area right away. Don't use light switches, flames or devices that might spark. Once you're somewhere safe, call SoCalGas at 1-800-427-2200, or 911 if there is immediate danger or you can't reach the utility. Spreading water near wiring: keep clear and call for help from a safe place. (Guidance based on SoCalGas safety information.)
